Some of this stuff is really embarrassing lol

Sketch-dump coming soon though! I'd be more consistent but I'm still trying to figure out how picture files work on my new-ish computer. They keep ending up too big to post after I scan them. Suggestions are greatly appreciated :D

Also, I'm in a Graphic Novel class at school so I'll be sure to post some of my homework assignments at the end of the semester.

MY COMIC IS TOTALLY COMING SOON or not who knows anymore

Feeling good!

2 min read
Hello everyone! Hope you're having a good year so far.

Just want to give a quick update, as I feel I've abandoned my followers here. I haven't been posting as much as I have in past years, and when I do, I don't post the kind of work a lot of you followed me for in the first place.

I don't like to get too personal on here, but I'm going through a lot of changes in my life right now, mostly on how I look at the future. I'm trying to change my mindset, so in the off chance that I DO end up pursuing art as a career, I'll be ready to do it as a professional rather than an admirer. This means less fan-art and more figure drawings. Less of what I want to draw and more of what I NEED to draw. I've been working on more technique in the past year, including anatomy, line control (weight and accuracy), and story telling.

For this reason, that comic you keep hearing a lot about but seeing none of was put on hold for some time, as I was focusing on being more of a student. Now that I've had more free time, I've started back on the comic and I've made some pretty good progress in the past week. Not only is the art better quality, but I'm having a much easier time spotting my mistakes as well. Using this beautiful internet thing, I've been watching some lectures on Youtube and reading through some technique guides on the blogs of many of my favorite artists. I will be taking my first art class ever in a few weeks.

I've realized that a majority of the artists in the industry have reached their point of success by studying an art style separate from sequential art, such as architecture, animation, and even sculpture. I'm trying to narrow down what this could be for me at the moment.

LONG STORY SHORT...

I'm feeling a lot of forward momentum and hope you all would continue to watch my journey, even though it's taken a bit of a detour.

this concludes my 3am revelations. hopefully this makes a lick of sense when I wake up...

If you haven't seen it yet, GO SEE IT NOW! It's still opening weekend, so you are excused for now.

*****SPOILERS AHEAD. TURN BACK NOW.*****

I thought it was amazing and would honestly call it one of the best superhero films we have seen yet.

I'll start with the tone. At first I was a little worried because I feared that they were trying too hard to mimic Nolan's Gotham, but I was wrong to assume that. It wasn't as bright and campy as we are used to, but it had a very forgiving tone. For most of the movie, I felt like this could actually be happening here on Earth. There were some really amazing camera angles as well. There was a zoom affect they used often which was a great way to increase the tension of the scene and make the situation seem even greater and sometimes graver.

Henry Cavil. There was just something about his facial expression and the way he holds his head that just screams Superman in this world. It's a kind of look that's both sympathetic and hopeful. And the two times he screamed just tore me apart. I'm glad we will be seeing more of him. He fully understands what Superman is about and how he would act in any situation.

The score I feel like I don't even need to mention, but it was incredible. Hans Zimmer didn't use the Superman theme, but it sounded like he did. The music was the right combination of heroic and threatening. I especially liked the music that went with the teraforming machine. There was an affect that went with the gravity shifts that still went with the scenes that didn't show the machine.

The acting on a whole was good. I can't really name anyone that didn't do their part well. I do think Jenny Olsen was underplayed though if she really was supposed to be a female version of Jimmy. We only really saw her in danger. No interaction with Clark and barely any with Lois. Maybe they will play on this more in a sequel. Lois had some weird lines (the dick measuring contest one stood out a lot) but she was still a better Lois than I thought she would be. Erica Durance still takes the cake in my book though.

The fight scenes were great. The camera angles were perfect and the choreography was very cool and exciting. They had a lot of good use of his flying. Especially that over the shoulder shot of Supes punching Zod in midair. The neck snap was a bold move that I respect them for. I hope they play on this in the future because killing is a big question for most superheroes, let alone Superman.

Now for some problems I had. Firstly, I wanna get out that the opening scene was weird for me. Maybe I'm just being immature, but a woman going through labor was a strange way to start the movie. It makes sense, but it's still strange.

The transition from Clark Kent to superhero was way too abrupt for me. It was like talking to Jor-El for those few moments gave him all the training he needed to be who he needs to be. I didn't see how he became so prepared to reveal himself to the world, especially after his Earth father died for him to wait for that moment. I got over it quickly, but it was still a pretty big roadblock for me.

The ending. What? It stood out so much. The whole movie made sense to me until Clark ended up working at the Daily Planet. How could no one recognize him? Even if not now, how about all the times he'll be saving Metropolis in the future? I was hoping they'd at least give him some kind of Kryptonian tech that would hide his identity from others or SOMETHING. He even walks into the Daily Planet without the glasses on!!! Maybe I'm missing something here but that just didn't fit at all with this world.

Overall though, I loved the movie. It was a great way to set the stage for future DC movies. They've definitely left the door open for more characters to come into this world. I'm a bit worried about how a sequel will look since they started out with a pretty high level threat and the Daily Planet thing seems silly. I hope they go with a single villain again because I think it was very effective. Again great movie in my eyes. It did what it set out to do.

What did you think?
